We all like to opt for a strong coffee in the morning for a great start to our day. That’s why you should know the strongest coffee types for those mornings when a powerful cup is needed. See our guide below.
5 strong coffee types you need to know
If you’re looking for the strongest coffee, you’ve come to the right place.
Ristretto
A Ristretto is the strongest coffee type! It’s similar to an espresso in the way that it’s made. Water is still pulled through coffee beans to create the coffee but a Ristretto uses less water. This makes the coffee shorter and stronger because the concentration of coffee and caffeine is higher.
Espresso
An espresso is a strong coffee on its own. Of course, it’s also a base for many of our favourite coffee drinks, from Flat Whites to Caramel Macchiatos. An espresso is made by pulling water through coffee beans to make a ‘shot’ of coffee. Because it’s simply made from coffee and water, you’ll be able to taste the distinct coffee bean flavour.
Our range of NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® Espresso Pods boasts many different espresso types so you can taste the difference between each coffee bean variety.
Lungo
A Lungo is a delectable long cup of coffee that boasts a delicious, strong roasted flavour. It’s made in the same way as espresso and ristretto, except there’s a lot more water being pulled through. You still get a strong coffee, just in a bigger cup! See our NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® Lungo Coffee Pods for a dark roast blend that’s wonderfully intense.
Americano
An Americano is made up of just coffee and water, so you get a long cup of delicious coffee. It’s a great type of strong coffee because you can customise it to your needs! Simply change the ratio of coffee to water.
Our NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® Americano is perfect for those who like a strong coffee with aromatic notes. For those who like their coffees more powerful, our NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® Americano Intenso is perfect for those rich flavours.
Espresso macchiato
An espresso macchiato, also known as a Cortado in Spanish, is a strong coffee with milk! If you like a coffee that is silky and creamy, but not very milky, this is the drink for you. An espresso macchiato is made up of mostly espresso with a dash of steamed milk and foam.
If this strong coffee type sounds like your ideal cup, you’ll love our NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® Cortado.
Is a latte strong?
A latte is one of the more milky coffees! This coffee drink is made up of 1/3 of espresso and 2/3 of steamed milk. The high milk ratio means that a latte isn’t a strong coffee.
Is a cappuccino strong?
A cappuccino is made up of equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and frothed milk. This drink is a bit more milky, but not as milky as a latte. It might not count as a strong coffee but it is on the stronger side of milky coffees.
Is espresso strong?
On its own, a shot of espresso does have a pretty strong flavour! This is because the flavour is simply made up of coffee beans and a small amount of water. With this strong coffee, you’ll be able to really taste the delicious, roasted beans.
